Is a gilded cage still a cage?
A landmark Supreme Court judgment is set to reshape how deprivation of liberty is understood and applied in social work practice and we’re pleased to share an upcoming opportunity to explore what this means in practice.
Allan Norman, a dual-qualified social worker and solicitor with over 20 years’ experience teaching social work law, will deliver a public lecture examining the impact of the recent AGNI judgment. This decision represents a significant shift, and introduces a new way of thinking about consent, confinement, and the role of safeguards. The implications are wide-ranging, affecting both adult and children’s services, and raising important questions about how professionals assess deprivation of liberty, apply safeguards, and ensure access to justice for some of the most vulnerable individuals.
