Building Social Care Research into Practice: Join the Conversation This Autumn

Social care services are under increasing pressure to deliver high-quality, evidence-informed support while responding to growing demand, workforce challenges and limited resources. Developing a stronger research culture across social care can help organisations meet these challenges by supporting innovation, improving practice and strengthening outcomes for the people who draw on care and support.
This autumn, the NIHR Research Support Service (RSS) Specialist Centre for Social Care is hosting a series of free Building Social Care Research into Practice workshops across the country. These interactive events are designed for strategic, professional and operational leaders working in social care and will explore both the value of research in practice settings and the barriers that currently prevent greater practitioner involvement.
Attendees will have the opportunity to:
Explore the benefits of embedding research into everyday practice.
Discuss the challenges that make research participation difficult for social care organisations.
Hear real-life examples of organisations successfully integrating research into service delivery.
Learn about opportunities for practitioners to become involved in research.
Discover funding, training and support available through the NIHR Academy and the Research Support Service.
Network with colleagues from across the region and share experiences, innovations and challenges.
Following lunch, participants can also access optional one-to-one sessions with practitioner research specialists, offering tailored advice on developing research ideas, building partnerships, overcoming challenges and accessing support.
Share Your Research Story
Alongside the roadshows, the NIHR RSS Specialist Centre for Social Care is keen to showcase the fantastic work already taking place across the country. Practitioners, teams and organisations involved in research are invited to share their experiences and projects to help demonstrate the impact that research can have within social care settings. There are two opportunities available.
Practitioner Profiles
Share your professional background and research journey.
Explain how research involvement has influenced your practice, skills and confidence.
Highlight the impact on your team, workplace and the people you support.
Offer advice and key messages for other practitioners interested in research.
Project Profiles
Showcase research projects, networks or communities of practice.
Describe project aims, outcomes and the role of practitioners.
Highlight the benefits for services, teams and individuals.
Share lessons learned to inspire others across the sector.
The profiles will be used to create displays for the roadshow events and contribute to wider work exploring the successes, challenges and opportunities for social care research across England.
