About the Event

This training is open to social workers across Adult and Children's Services within the West Midlands Social Work Teaching Partnership. Please see below our Partner organisations. 

The aim of this training is to improve practitioner’s understanding and response to the impact of trauma, for practitioners to develop better working relationships with people who have experienced trauma and for the people we work with to feel better supported by practitioners. 

This course will cover the following topics:

  • Understanding the impact of trauma on an individual both physically and psychologically. 
  • The cyclic nature of trauma. 
  • The impact on future relationships. 
  • Key skills in undertaking assessments of people who have experienced trauma. 
  • Opportunity to listen to the voices of people with lived experience of trauma to enhance learning and understanding. 
  • Developing support strategies and improving the emotional wellbeing of practitioners working with trauma. 

About the trainers: 

Donna Chapman is an operational manager for Learning & Development across peoples services for Shropshire. Donna has worked with children, families and those who care for them for over 20 years, many of whom have experienced trauma, including trauma through abuse, neglect and exploitation. 

Lewis Dunhill- Pool is a Learning and Development Officer for Shropshire Council Children’s Services Lewis recognises the importance of trauma informed care. He has worked across health and social care, working with both children, young people and adults in community and inpatient mental health settings.
