Research Seminar: Social Work with Older People

This research seminar is open to members of the West Midlands Social Work Teaching Partnership. Please see below our Partner organisations.

The research focuses on two case study sites, one in the Midlands and one in the South of England. A researcher worked for 6 months in each site, observing social workers and talking to them about their practice, interviewing some of the older people and carers they were working with and interviewing other professionals. Researchers also looked at some of the case records and gathered data about how social workers spent their time. 

The session will cover:

· Research methodology

· Research Findings and recommendations

· How older people and carers with lived experience of social work were involved in the project as members of an Expert Advisory Group (EAG) which guided the project
