About the Event

This PWLE seminar is open to members of the West Midlands Social Work Teaching Partnership. Please see below our Partner organisations.

Over the past year, the West Midlands Regional Participation Leads Network has worked in close partnership with care-experienced young people to co-create Putting Participation on the Map a dynamic and transformative training programme. The pilot workshop, delivered by seven inspiring young adults at the Principal Social Worker Conference, was a resounding success—leaving professionals moved, motivated, and ready to rethink how they engage young people.

This session is:

  • Designed and delivered by young people with lived experience of children’s social care.

  • Supported by Participation Workers from several local authorities.

  • Built on real-life stories, reflections, and feedback, not just theory.

The training explores:

  • The language of participation and why it matters.

  • The power of being heard and how it impacts outcomes.

  • Models like Lundy’s Framework, brought to life through experiential learning.

By the end of the session, participants will:

  • Understand the importance of participation.

  • Recognise how lived experience can shape better services and decisions.

  • Explore practical tools and models to embed participation in everyday practice.

  • Feel inspired to build stronger networks and amplify young voices.

  • Commit to a more consistent, compassionate approach to working with young people.

Deadline to register: Monday 20th of October
