People With Lived Experience Seminar: Professional curiosity, the lived experience perspective.

This session is open to all social work practitioners across Adult and Children's Services within the West Midlands Social Work Teaching Partnership. Please see our Partner organisations below.

This session is focused on the rise of serious case reviews around people from minority groups and what the barriers are that prevent social workers from being professionally curious with them.

From this session we hope that you will:

• See the perspective and hear the voice of someone from a minority group.

• How people, may react to difficult conversations and what if they perceive this as a potential internal bias?

• Discuss if Protective characteristics are a barrier for being professionally curious?

• Reflect on your own practice and take away information and thoughts from others that may develop your confidence in this area

Facillitator Bio: Jonathan Clayton is an experienced fostering professional with over 11 years as a therapeutic foster parent. He is a Service User Partner for Social Work at both the University of Staffordshire and Keele University, contributing valuable lived experience to the education and development of future social workers. Jonathan also works as a trainer and empathic listener for an Independent Fostering Agency and serves as an Allegations Advisor for Foster Talk, supporting foster carers through challenging situations with insight, understanding and expertise.
