About the Event

*Please note that this training is open to Local Authorities and private, voluntary and independent organisations who provide placements for one of our partner HEIs; a list of our partners can be found below.


The aim of the session is to understand the role and responsibilities of an On-Site Supervisor for BA/MA social work courses. 


This will include: 

  • Becoming familiar with the relevant regulatory & assessment frameworks in social work training.​ 

  • The role of supervision including adult learning, anti-discriminatory practice, the voice of People with Lived Experience and some helpful tools to use in supervision sessions.​ 

  • The role of giving feedback, undertaking direct observations and contributing to student assessments.  


Facilitator Bios:

Joanna Holmes is currently a Consultant Social Worker for West Midlands Social Work Teaching Partnership. Joanna’s background is in social work with Children and Families, where she worked across the social work roles including in duty and assessment, children in need, child protection and Looked After Children. Within her roles Joanna has also been a Practice Educator supervising social work students and non-qualified staff.   

 

Sue de Waal also currently works as a Consultant Social Worker for West Midlands Social Work Teaching partnership. Sue has held numerous social work roles, across different children’s services as a social worker and team manager. Sue has undertaken the role of onsite and offsite Practice Educator and Practice Educator Assessor.
