About the Event

Open to all social work practitioners across Adult and Children's Services within the West Midlands Social Work Teaching Partnership. Please see our Partner organisations below.

Workshop overview:

This session will provide a practical overview of modern slavery, including the different forms of exploitation, common signs and indicators, and how these may present in everyday professional roles. Participants will also gain an understanding of the National Referral Mechanism (NRM) and local pathway provision, alongside guidance on appropriate questioning techniques and what action to take if a potential victim is identified.

The training will include real‑world case studies and opportunities for discussion, helping attendees to translate learning into practice.

This training is delivered by highly experienced practitioners:

  • An Independent Slavery and Exploitation Advocate Team Leader with over 30 years’ experience working with West Midlands Police

  • An Independent Slavery and Exploitation Advocate with previous experience in the housing sector, offering valuable insight into exploitation risks within housing and community settings

This training is suitable for professionals working across housing, safeguarding, enforcement, support services and community-facing roles, and is particularly relevant for those who may come into contact with vulnerable individuals.
