This research seminar is open to members of the West Midlands Social Work Teaching Partnership. Please see below our Partner organisations.


Join us for a crucial training event designed to equip Practice Educators and practice supervisors with the skills and knowledge necessary to better support black and global majority social workers. Through this session, you'll gain insights into:

  • The impact of racism on day-to-day experiences in social work practice

  • Barriers faced by black and global majority social workers

  • Strategies for managing the effects of racism

  • Tools for supporting black and global majority students


This 1.5-hour presentation will be followed by a 30-minute Q&A session, providing ample opportunity to address your questions and concerns.

Facilitator Bio: With over three decades of experience in safeguarding social work, Satwant Kohar has held various leadership roles, including Team Manager, Operations Manager for Duty Teams and Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hubs (MASH). Currently, Satwant's roles include the Service Manager for the Safeguarding Children's Partnership and Practice Learning Manager. Previously, she served as Chair and Vice Chair of the Warwickshire Black Workers Group, promoting diversity and inclusion. Additionally, Satwant is an active member of the Black Lives Matter Action and Support Group, working towards creating positive change. She continues this advocacy in the Breaking Through Programme, providing guidance and support as a mentor.
