Training overview:
This five-hour course is equal parts theory and practical applications. It is for professionals from a range of specialties within social work and related professions.
What the course covers:
- Understanding the key elements of contemporary attachment theory, specifically, the Dynamic-Maturational Model (DMM) of Attachment and Adaptation.
- Learning a model of attachment that is strengths-based, non-labelling and non-pathologising.
- Understanding the relevance of attachment theory to social work (the second session will emphasise the relevance to managers).
- How attachment theory helps our understanding of the long-term effects of trauma and loss.
- Practical applications: Learning a bio-psycho-social model that offers a common language for case formulation, tracking progress, and programme evaluation based on strengths and adaptation rather than disorder, dysfunction and deficits.
The second session is primarily for managers but will be open to anyone who attends the first session.
