Cultural Humility and Safety Training

This training session on Cultural Humility and Safety is designed to support staff in developing a deeper understanding of how identity, lived experience, and systemic inequalities shape interactions with colleagues and the communities we serve. The session will explore key concepts such as self-reflection, power dynamics, unconscious bias, and inclusive practice, encouraging participants to move beyond cultural awareness towards ongoing learning and accountability. Through discussion and practical examples, staff will gain the confidence to create safer, more respectful environments where diversity is valued and everyone feels heard, respected, and supported.

Facilitator Bio: Atrin Conway is the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Lead for Adult Social Care at Birmingham City Council, with a strong community focus on advancing inclusive and equitable practice. With expertise in policy, strategy, and cultural humility training, Atrin works to embed equity into both systems and culture. A firm believer in dialogue, mutual respect, and social cohesion, Atrin advocates for justice across all protected characteristics. Guided by the belief that equity should be fully realised—not limited—Atrin champions approaches that, when done right, create fair and inclusive outcomes for all. 

Rejecting the idea of EDI as a trend, Atrin sees it as a longstanding and essential part of civic society, central to how communities function and thrive.
