In order to support Practice Education within our organisations, the Teaching Partnership commissioned the creation of a Practice Educator Refresher Course. The course has been developed by Jo Finch (University of East London), Siobhan Maclean (Kirwin Maclean Associates), Dr Prospera Tedam (UAE University/Anglia Ruskin University) and Dr Clare Stone (University of Central Lancashire). It aims to keep Practice Educators up to date with the latest developments in Practice Education and support Practice Educators who may not have supported a student recently or have qualifications which have lost their currency.
The course focuses on the following topic areas: assessment in the workplace; creating and sustaining professional relationships in practice learning; enabling critical reflection; learning and assessment against the competency frameworks; making the links between theory and practice; promoting equality and valuing diversity; supervision models and approaches; and working positively with struggling or failing students.
The first two weeks in January saw around 60 Practice Educators attend Train The Trainer sessions to support them in delivering the sessions within their own organisation. All Practice Educator trainers were provided with a Refresher Course Trainer guide, Course slides, handouts and books and other resources to give them all the tools required to hold their own sessions. At the Train The Trainer sessions, those attending were able pick up some tips from Jo, Siobhan, Prospera and Clare on how to facilitate the sessions.
Due to demand, the Teaching Partnership plan to hold further Train The Trainer sessions. Please watch this space for further dates to be announced.
